Alyssa Bator<\/p>\n
Alyssa Bator is a born and bred Niagara-on-the-Lake farmer. She grew up right down<\/p>\n
the street from the winery and knows the lay of the land quite well. Little did she know<\/p>\n
growing up on her 80-acre tender fruit and grape farm would lead her down a path not far<\/p>\n
from where the apple fell.<\/p>\n
Starting June 2014, Alyssa Bator took over the reigns from long time friend and<\/p>\n
colleague Angela Kasimos. \u201cI could not have taken over as winemaker from anyone<\/p>\n
better,\u201d Alyssa states, \u201cShe has been the best person to work with and has taught me so<\/p>\n
much.\u201d<\/p>\n
Along with growing up on the farm, Alyssa studied four years of physics at McMaster<\/p>\n
University in Hamilton, receiving her BSc in 2012. \u201cI know it\u2019s not a typical route to<\/p>\n
winemaking,\u201d she says, \u201cBut I could not have gotten into Brock University\u2019s Oenology<\/p>\n
and Viticulture program without it.\u201d<\/p>\n
After finishing her BSc, Alyssa applied to the Grape and Wine Technology Certificate<\/p>\n
program at Brock University which is only attained with a BSc in Science. She just<\/p>\n
graduated before receiving the position at Riverview. However, Alyssa was not new to<\/p>\n
the ropes at Riverview. She had previously worked in the tasting room at Riverview for<\/p>\n
the past six years. She knows the wines and the people and couldn\u2019t be any happier than<\/p>\n
where she is.<\/p>\n
When asked what she liked the most about her position she stated, \u201cMy place is in the<\/p>\n
vineyard. It\u2019s what I\u2019ve grown up knowing and love working with. A winemaker may<\/p>\n
be able to make good wine, but the soil, the climate and conditions of the vineyard will<\/p>\n
actually be what dictates the kind of quality you will get. I always say good quality wines<\/p>\n
come from highly cared for vines.\u201d<\/p>\n
